Permanent Expedition is an artist-in-residence project initiated and curated by nomadenetappe – Kunst & Theorie. Ten artists, working in the fields of sound art, radio, installation, video and conceptual art, where invited to produce site-specific works during a period of eight days in Vigo, Spain. The project „Permanent Expedition“ took place at MARCO – Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Vigo and was developed in two stages. The artists involved transformed this place into a production room, which finally was be opened to the public under the format of a collective exhibition.
The name of the project refers to its experimental nature, similar to a scientific research mission. At the same time, it alludes to a term used by the marine explorer and documentary filmmaker Jacques Cousteau in one of his books, Corals - Threatened World of Wonders, to describe the elimination of temporal and spatial limitations associated with research journeys. As the term suggests, „Permanent Expedition“ follows the idea of exploring constantly, thinking daily life and the excursions to Vigo’s surroundings as a laboratory and a setup for experimentation.
