minim (Diana Dulgheru) is a Romanian audio-visual artist, based in Bucharest. Since 2009, she’s been developing audiovisual performances that explore the relation between sound and form, visualization of the sound and the aesthetic possibilities of the digital error. Searching for a certain purity in the particularities of the relation between sound and visual form in a postdigital context, minim develops projects in which sounds are reduced to their basic form and are used for their own sonic value. Drawing from an education involving drawing and figurative composition, minim’s means of sonic expression has evolved to utilise digital technology with a minimalist approach. In complementary artistic terms, Diana has also worked with media such as photography, installation and later audiovisual performances that explore the aesthetic possibilities of errors generated by digital technology. The idea behind minim’s 50hz audiovisual performance is grounded in the sonic exploration of a single frequency, whose initial value is altered by using different audio effects. This approach results in overlapping sound frequencies, where the generated sonic ‘errors’ functions to create infinitesimal experimental possibilities. This working method functions to achieve compositional variety, but, at the same time, highlights the simplicity of the repetitive beat which itself can achieve diversity through minimalist sonic techniques.Stefana Fratila is a Romanian-born composer, performer and sound artist based in Toronto, Canada via Vancouver, Canada. Over the years, she has received critical acclaim for her music by various media outlets, including Exclaim, The FADER, Vice, and xlr8r. This summer, Stefana launched two self-directed music videos (“Swallowed Seeds” and “Knowing”) via Toronto-based electronic label Bedroomer, both which address themes of abuse and deception in intimate relationships – particularly the lying, manipulating and deceiving of women. For 0FF8N0FF, Stefana will be presenting an ambient set made up of field recordings and samples processed through a granular synthesizer.
