The exhibition A Moment in Echo Park operates in a network of pop music and cultural historical reference structures. During the exhibition a stretched and pop-musically fragmented sound work by Andreas Kurz can be heard via the central work “Untitled (Backloaded Horn)” by Maximilian Anelli-Monti and Moritz Pisk, a loudspeaker system reminiscent of a blueprint or a prototype. For the Listening Session, ANTONIA XM will use this work in a limited timeframe for her unique club-musically performance.
Antonia Matschnig aka ANTONIA XM is DJ and organiser of the label Ashida Park. XM’s musical aspirations can be roughly described as hybrid club music or post-club sound. But following the basic principles of the exhibition, Antonia XM and her label also defend themselves against structuring genre attributions and categorizations. Contemporary pop acts dynamically and fluidly, while genre boundaries appear immobile and final; in the context of the present, they seem like silent witnesses of an overthrown, conservative cultural industry. The Listening Session crosses the threshold between club and art space, the constraints and conventions of the respective space can therefore be completely ignored. Attention can thus be completely focused on a de- and new construction of pop.
